Born in Sydney in 1974, Cameron always displayed an ability for art and drawing, participating in art classes throughout his time at school, where he achieved results that allowed him to go on to University. It was at the University of Newcastle that he was exposed to the Wildlife illustration course. The course allowed him to gain experience with mediums that he hadn't used before. Being a prolific drawer, he shifted towards painting, gaining an understanding in acrylics, watercolours and gouache, going on to teach at the University of Newcastle in 1996 in the technical aspects of illustration. Combining these new skills with his natural affinity for nature, he went on to produce bodies of work that allowed him to gain a Bachelor Degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Visual Arts. It was also at University that he became aware of the art of bird illustration; William T Cooper becoming a major influence of his style of work. The search for the perfectly painted feather now became a huge part of Cameron's life. After leaving University, Cameron started to work as a freelance illustrator and working more in gouache and acrylics. Working on both guidebook / scientific style illustrations and other styles of paintings that are more concerned with light, colour and mood, have allowed Cameron to produce a large body of diverse work that he constantly exhibits and sells. In more recent times, Cameron has developed a more landscape orientated style of work, that still includes birds. Travelling along Australia's east coast extensively as well as overseas to source material for his canvases. These works being more concerned with the birds in their natural habitat, in natural light. An attempt to bring nature to the viewer, showing birds hopping on the forest floor, or perched upon a dappled branch... Always finding inspiration from the environment.
